For millennia, roses have enchanted with their beauty and captivating fragrance. A precious commodity is extracted from the blossoms of the Damask rose: rose oil. In Bulgaria's Valley of Roses, Boris and Keti Katsarski cultivate their own rose field. At their distillery, the rose petals are processed into rose oil and rose water. The journey also takes us into the past: In ancient Rome, roses were a status symbol and the epitome of luxury. The oil-bearing rose originally arrived in Europe via the Silk Road. Today, roses are not only in demand in the perfume and cosmetics industries but are also used in cooking. Lucie shows how to candied the petals and turn them into a refreshing rose shaved ice – a delicious homage to the queen of flowers.
