near and far - Etna, Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route, Mainau

Etna: Etna in Sicily is the highest active volcano in Europe. People live in constant danger, because Etna can erupt at any time. The extremely fertile lava soil has always been the basis for good harvests.

Mainau: Countess Bettina and Count Björn show the island of Mainau. The island, famous for its flower splendor, impresses with its native flowers, trees from all over the world, the castle and the lake. But also by its famous orchid breeding and the butterfly house, in which there are up to 40 different butterfly species to admire.

Baltic Sea Coastal Cycle Route: These beaches, this nature, this view - this makes the Baltic Coastal Cycle Route one of the most beautiful in the whole country. The route is almost 1,100 kilometers long on German soil, from Harrislee to Usedom.

Belfast: A day in Belfast is best started with breakfast in St. George's Market. Opened in 1896, the market hall is worth seeing for its architecture alone. On a drive through the city, murals recall the Northern Ireland conflict between Catholics and Protestants. Also worth seeing is the Titanic Museum, which provides insights into the construction of the legendary ship. And when dusk falls, the atmosphere turns lively. As befits an Irish city, there is a pub with beer on almost every corner. And with a little luck, live music.

Röhn: Sheep simply belong to the Rhön, here you can recharge your batteries or relax in the spas of Bad Kissingen or Bad Brückenau, visit historic sites and climb the holy mountain of the Franconians, the Kreuzberg. But there is much more to discover. This is shown by the musician Ilona Zirkelbach, she is at home in the Rhön.

Fago Island: Many island communities in Canada have problems because fishing no longer brings in income. Fogo Island survives with nature-based tourism: one resident has put her money into a luxury hotel - the income is reinvested on the island.
